Stephen Harper and the Conservatives have won the last election and have taken control of government for the first time since the Conservative Party was defeated in the 2011 federal election.
The federal election was called on Thursday.
The Conservative Party, which had a majority government for a decade, is now in opposition, having lost power in 2011 when the Liberals took the majority and put Harper in power.
The Liberal Party won the election and returned to power in 2013.
The NDP lost power last year.
The Green Party has been on the sidelines since the 2015 election.
Ahead of the election, Conservative MP David Christopherson said he would like to see the Harper government brought to an end.
He said the party is doing a good job and that Canadians are ready to make decisions based on what they know.
Christopherson also said he wanted to see more investment in infrastructure projects and a new foreign policy approach.”
But I also want to see a new direction for the government.”
