By now, Browns fans know about how their team is trying to rebuild the franchise, and it’s hard to believe that’s only a few months away.
The Browns are still in the midst of their first season in the NFL, and their rebuilding is going to be very slow, slow, very slow.
But what is the Browns’ plan to take them from this point forward?
With the team in need of a new head coach and general manager, it’s easy to see why the Browns would need to start over from scratch.
After all, this is the team that fired Hue Jackson, who was fired in 2019 after the team failed to make the playoffs.
This is the franchise that hired Joe Banner and brought in Mark Davis in 2019.
And the Browns are expected to spend around $100 million to re-sign DeShone Kizer and Josh Gordon in the offseason.
But it’s not just the money that’s important.
There’s also the franchise’s current state of mind.
The Browns were one of the worst teams in football last season, and that was largely due to quarterback Josh McCown.
He threw only 23 interceptions and threw a career-worst 29 interceptions.
The most disappointing thing about McCown is that he did all of that because of poor decisions.
His biggest mistake was the Browns giving up over $100M to sign Brandon Weeden in 2018.
While McCown did well to stay healthy and not allow the Browns to get away with so much, his decision-making on the field was atrocious.
McCown made a huge mistake by drafting Josh Gordon over other quarterbacks.
The team has also struggled to keep pace with the rest of the NFL.
Cleveland was ranked 32nd in scoring offense in 2019, and just 25th in rushing offense.
While the team has been getting better, it was always going to take time to improve.
And while it’s true that the Browns improved a lot this offseason, they did so by bringing in a few other players that will have to be part of a change of direction.
The first of those is quarterback Cody Kessler, who is expected to be the starter this year.
Kessler is a player that will likely play a key role in the Browns offensive scheme and is expected play a bigger role in this year’s offense.
Kessler was one of two quarterbacks drafted in the first round in 2020 that had to take the field last season.
The other quarterback is Cody Kessler.
The former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback had a rough year.
He missed nearly two full seasons of football due to injuries.
He was also fined $20,000 for the game-winning touchdown pass against the Baltimore Ravens in 2018, and his quarterback rating dropped to -9.7.
The quarterback that Kessler will be replacing is Brandon Weisman, who took over for McCown in 2019 and finished the season with a 4-12 record.
Weisman started the 2017 season as the starter, but the team benched him after one game.
Weeman struggled mightily in the season opener against the Oakland Raiders, throwing four interceptions.
The team also cut Weisman after the game because of the quarterback’s poor performance.
Weiman had his struggles and it was time for a change.
Kessler is expected be the team’s quarterback in 2020, but it’s possible that the team will still be using a backup to Weisman in 2020.
Kessler has already been under center for the Browns in the past, as he has been one of their starting quarterbacks in 2018 and 2019.
However, the Browns may want to give Kessler a shot at taking over in 2020 and have the opportunity to start a young quarterback in the meantime.
The possibility that Kessler could start in 2020 makes the Browns change of plan for the 2020 season very likely.
Keller has had a lot of success as a quarterback in college, but his college career didn’t last very long.
Kessler’s numbers were solid in 2019 but he finished the year with a passer rating of -16.3.
Kessler only threw 19 interceptions last season and threw just six touchdown passes.
In 2018, Kessler threw for 4,958 yards and 22 touchdowns, which is just average for a quarterback his age.
If Kessler can continue to improve, he could have a bright future in Cleveland.
The next quarterback in line is Cody Whitehair.
Whitehair has spent time as a backup quarterback for the Cowboys, Cardinals, Eagles, and Steelers, and he had a very good rookie season.
Whitehairst struggled in his rookie season, throwing five interceptions in just five games.
The young quarterback also struggled with consistency in 2018 as he threw just two touchdown passes and four interceptions in the year.
It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Whitehair could be the Browns starter this season.
Whitehair has never been a very productive quarterback at any level of competition.
White hair had a career passer rating rating of only 58.1, which was just 27th among
